I used to run a little facility for street kids about 10 or 12 years ago on Sixteenth Street and Washington Boulevard in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle, WA. It was a neat little place, a two-story house.

I remember a time in my youth when I could walk down the street without being harassed by police or accosted by people who considered themselves upstanding citizens and felt it was their right to slander my friends and me. I remember a time of peace, a time of mutual respect and understanding.
