Squatting & Gear
Shelter Hopping
David White Feb 11, 2010

My experience in San Francisco Shelter Hopping!

Well unfortunately the economy has limited my opportunity to find steady employment in San Francisco. I have looked for months and grown exhausted. Plus my lacks of funds makes it impossible to pay phone bills or secure proper housing, leaving me with no contact information a side from email and I am stuck in Hunters Point at “Providence” homeless shelter! It is a horrible neighborhood. The staff drills us like boot camp and gives no opportunity to communicate let alone proper explanation on their part without bullying us around like cattle! It has been horrible a side from the fact I have a roof over my head when they don’t suddenly drop my name off the list leaving me stuck in the middle of the night in the ghetto with no where to sleep! “MSC South,” another shelter and drop in has chairs to sit in all night. If you are lucky to get a chair it is a hard place to sit and it is impossible to sleep comfortably! I found a job, at the mall. Yesterday after two months of promised work my “boss” dropped me claiming there was a situation leaving no available hours. Two months I waited and was guaranteed the job just to get stuck with nothing! Horrible choice on his part after hiring two other guys who were far less qualified for the job. I believe it reflected his down ward spiral back into heroin addiction as the guys had met at “A.A.” meetings and certainly were not in recovery despite what they say!

So now I just bounce back and forth from down town to “Providence” shelter. Waiting on confirmations from our producers about an up and coming theatre production I have been in discussions about to co-produce, star, and co-direct! It is very exciting but the recession set us back two years leaving us time for more detailed discussions! Probably for the best as the shows look good and I was the first to jump on them two years ago! If they go through I will sore to success as a producer and actor in Broadway and feature films! Life is looking positive, I would just like to find work to live and have some fun! This weekend is “Love Fest!” The largest free rave in America! 100,000 people gather at city hall here in San Francisco and thousands of ravers’ parade down Market Street dancing to D.J.’s on floats like “Mardi Gras,” only electronic music instead of the New Orleans style bead throwing thing! It is the greatest time of one’s life! Not to be missed if you are in the bay area and certainly worth flying in for if you got the chance! I would for sure!

I’m very involved in the festival and electronic music under culture! It brought life to my experience in this world after losing both parents and the remainder of my family leaving me on my own because of my medical marijuana use! It was very heart breaking but I have moved on and found community in such events as “Love Fest,” “Burning Man,” “Rainbow Gatherings,” and other temporary community events around the world! I started with promotions of such events for friends who have been involved since before Jerry Garcia died and the “Grateful Dead” was everything! To me they still are! I’m a large “Dead Head,” as we are called or “Family.” Spent years of my life hitch hiking America coast to coast up and down to participate in such parties! After getting into acting, I took a break from parties to focus on my career now, early on in my life in my early 20’s. I wanted to do something productive, influential, that was a lot of fun. After being hired by a famous politician I found Theatre and Movies to be my creative outlet for the world! This year I have been working on several theatre projects that will become large Broadway shows and several feature films! This will be a lot of fun and excellent way to make money for charities and my family life in the future! I will get back into music events shortly after and Politics once again to train people to run for office in hopes of making positive change in the world through power!

Well that is about it for now. Life has been very stressful but a lot of fun nonetheless! Excited to get things moving in my world! Peace Love to everyone, hope all is well in you own! ☺ !!!!!!!!
